Melbourne Unicorns have secured their first win of the 2015 Direct Connect #DewarShield season, defeating Power House in the competition’s Round Five Match of the Round.
In the #DewarShield Match of the Round, Power House and Melbourne will be battling for their first win of the season; they are two teams who were considered strong finals chances before we kicked off, however each have been victims of a tough bye and an inability to hold out in defence, with each leaking an average of over 30 points per game.

Tumai Edwards, current Assistant Coach for the Melbourne Unicorn’s Premier 1 team, has been named as Assistant Coach of the U18 Australian Rugby Sevens side. He led the Rebels U18s Boy Rugby Sevens team to a runner up finish in the National Rugby Sevens Championships earlier this year.

The Melbourne Unicorns President’s Lunch last week saw an esteemed gathering treated to some wonderful tales from one of Australian sports’ finest.
The tri-annual event, which included motivational speeches from RaboDirect Rebels’ Telusa Veainu and Luke Burgess, was MC’d by former Australian Cricketer and AFL player Max Walker, also a former commentator on the Nine Network.
The Direct Connect Dewar Shield Match of the Round promises to be a cracker, as top of the table Melbourne Uni host Melbourne Unicorns, yet to register a win but having come so close in a one-point loss and a draw thus far.

History was made last Saturday at Orrong Park as allocated Rebels’ Luke Burgess, Cam Crawford, Jordy Reid and Telusa Veainu represented Melbourne. While Ben Meehan and Radike Samo were in action for Box Hill.

Jordy Reid played regularly for the Melbourne Unicorns in the Dewar Shield, after switching from Harlequin where he played a key role in the 2013 premiership, before undergoing shoulder surgery that saw him miss the Melbourne Rising campaign in the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship (NRC) but return fit and raring to go for the Rebels’ 2015 pre-season.
