Jordy Reid Openside Flanker Melbourne Rugby Union Football Club

UNICORNS PLAYER WATCH: JORDY REID

Jordy Reid played regularly for the Melbourne Unicorns in the Dewar Shield, after switching from Harlequin where he played a key role in the 2013 premiership, before undergoing shoulder surgery that saw him miss the Melbourne Rising campaign in the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship (NRC) but return fit and raring to go for the Rebels’ 2015 pre-season.

Rebels’ fan favourite Jordy Reid had limited game time in the 2014 season, seeing his opportunities limited by the outstanding form of backrowers Scott Fuglistaller, Colby Fainga’a and Sean McMahon. The 22 year old still managed to add three further Super Rugby appearances to his name, after making nine in his maiden campaign in 2013 as well as playing against the British & Irish Lions at AAMI Park.

Jordy joined the Club on an Extended Playing Squad (EPS) contract in 2013 from the Manly Marlins, his hometown Club, and signed a new contract that will keep him in Melbourne until at least the end of the 2016 Super Rugby season.

Jordy is instantly recognisable on the field thanks to his long dreaded hair. It is that long hair, along with his flair and aggression at the breakdown, which has seen Jordy compared to recent great Wallaby flankers George Smith and Phil Waugh. Having the same grounding as Waugh at the Shore School in Sydney, Reid was quickly earmarked as a young player to watch.

Jordy is currently studying a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Sports Management. He previously worked in sports memorabilia, before joining the Club in October 2012.
