The Brighton Renault Dewar Shield moves into Round 4 as Melbourne play host to Endeavour Hills at Orrong Romanis Reserve.
We caught up with both sides before their Round 4 clash to hear their thoughts on their sides preparations and what they believe the opposition will bring on game day.
Melbourne First XV Head Coach – Tumai Edwards
How do you feel your side has developed over the course of the first 3 rounds of the 2019 season?
Each week we are slowly getting our systems right, we have been exposed in a few areas every week but overall I’m happy with the progression so far.
What did you take out of your Round 3 clash with Melbourne University?
It definitely was a tough battle for us. Melbourne University are a really well drilled squad who play with a lot of tempo, it was a game we really focussed on getting our systems right and I thought for a majority of the game we were in control but in saying that Uni did expose us a few areas.
What do you think Endeavour will bring to the match-up this weekend?
I’ve been very impressed with Endeavour over the first few rounds, the results may not have gone there way but they have been really competitive in all games, they have a lot of powerful ball carriers and play to their strengths well. Its going to be a very tough battle.
Which players do you expect to fire for Endeavour Hills this weekend?
There forwards are very physical upfront and if they get good forward momentum they are hard to stop. They have a good combination going between the 9 and 10.
Endeavour Hills First XV Head Coach – Ben Perenise
How do you feel your side has developed over the course of the first 3 rounds of the 2019 season?
Its been a testing three rounds for us and a reality check on where we need to be in order to be competitive in this competition. Due to injuries we haven’t been able to field the same forward pack in any of the games. We’re hoping that we are just getting these out of the way early on so we can have a good run in the second round and play to our teams full potential.
What did you take out of your Round 3 clash with Power House?
We need to take our opportunities when presented otherwise good teams will punish you.
What do you think Melbourne will bring to the match-up this weekend?
Physical forwards and straight running backs.
Which players do you expect to fire for Melbourne this weekend?
Too hard to just pick a couple but their forward pack have been consistent all year. They lay the platform for their backs. I’m sure that will be no different tomorrow. Our challenge will be to contain them.
