This week the Melbourne Rebels announced the Cowper Shield for the Club Championship has been won for the fifth year in succession by the Melbourne Unicorns. Congratulations to all our members at Melbourne on this significant achievement. Both Junior and Senior programs in the Melbourne Club continue to grow and teams are competing well at all levels.
The committee are delighted to be able to report that appointments for the Dewar Shield (Premier 1) coaching team, along with most other coaching roles for next season, have been made. We were determined to put the organisational structure and people in place as early as possible, to allow the coaching staff to begin 2015 preparations immediately.
The Wallaroos have won their opening match of the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup, defeating South Africa 26-3 in Marcoussis in Paris on Saturday morning AEST. The Wallaroos’ first win of 2014 came off the back of some patient running Rugby as they ground out a tough win against their southern hemisphere opponents.
Oneata Schwalger and Ashley Masters named for World Cup Squad The Wallaroos squad that will travel to Paris for the 2014 IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup in August was announced today with three regulars from the Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team named. Sharni Williams, Shannon Parry and Cobie Jane Morgan make a return to the Wallaroos squad after a successful run on the IRB Seven’s circuit.
In the 2014 Dewar Shield season, the Melbourne Unicorns will be looking to continue their dominant form from the previous few years and seek redemption over successive grand final losses in 2012 and 2013.
