Dewar Shield 2015 Rd 17 Endeavour Hills v Melbourne

UNICORNS PEAKING IN TIME FOR FINALS SERIES

Melbourne Unicorns seem to be peaking at the right time, after they comfortably accounted for Endeavour Hills at Frog Hollow Reserve.

Most impressive for Melbourne is that they’ve only conceded 23 points across their last three matches; defensively, they’re on song at the moment, while they’ve scored an average of 52 points across the same time frame.

“They were a physical side, and we combatted that well,” Melbourne Head Coach Anare Koliavu said. “Our backs were outstanding and have stepped it up, which is great leading to this part of the season, however our set piece was average and that is something we will work on.”

For an Endeavour Hills side feeling the effects of injuries as a disappointing season draws towards a close, there were positives to be found in the performances of a number of Colts players stepping up to Dewar Shield level to fill the gaps.

“Nothing really went well for us on the weekend,” Endeavour Hills’ Head Coach John Eden said, “however the introduction of four nineteen year olds and an eighteen year old for the final twenty minutes was good.

“They all played well and, if we can keep them all together, it looks promising for the future for Endeavour Hills.”

This week, Endeavour Hills travel to Moorabbin in the Dewar Shield Match of the Round knowing that only a bonus point win can ensure either the Rams or Power House take the wooden spoon, while Melbourne host a Southern Districts side looking for three wins in a row.
