Lightning quick winger Telusa Veainu joined the Rebels in 2014 on a two year developing foreign player deal.
The former New Zealand U20s representative made eight appearances in Super Rugby for the Crusaders and Highlanders between 2011 and 2013, scoring a memorable length of the field try in Dunedin for the Cantabrians in his final year in New Zealand. A prolific try scorer in New Zealand’s ITM Cup, he switched allegiances from Canterbury to Hawke’s Bay in 2013 and finished second on the competition try-scoring tally, with seven five-pointers.
Telusa’s first season in Melbourne saw him plagued by a number of minor, niggling injuries, and unable to cement a spot in the side. When he did play, he impressed, scoring a length of the field try against the Waratahs at AAMI Park and also touching down against the Western Force in Perth. Telusa’s commitment to excellence in the Dewar Shield, where he helped take Melbourne Unicorns to a Preliminary Final appearance, was also noted by his peers.
Telusa will look to use the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship (NRC) as a stepping stone to securing a starting place for the Rebels in 2015.
