Unicorn Mitch Andrews made his debut for the Melbourne Rising off the bench in Round Two of the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship (NRC), after Head Coach Zane Hilton named an exciting lineup to host Brisbane City. Andrews, one of Melbourne Rugby Club’s stand-out Premier 1, First Grade players was selected this year in the Melbourne Rising squad as Hooker.
The Rising have won two out of three games and are hoping to go one better than last year when they made the play offs.
Andrews joined the Melbourne Unicorns after moving to Melbourne from New Zealand four years ago. He has been playing in the Unicorns’ #DewarShield team since he joined the Club.
Rugby has always been a passion for Andrews, starting his rugby career as a junior player at six years of age. He loves the experience of playing rugby at this level, which includes being able to travel and having exposure to a range of top-quality coaches. He hopes that it may open up some opportunities of moving abroad to continue playing rugby.
Andrews’ passion and commitment to the game and the Melbourne Rugby Union Club is second to none. He is involved throughout the Club – from Coaching the U12 Gold team to playing at the highest Club level with the Senior team. Andrews received the Club Champion Award this year, which validates his work at the Melbourne Unicorns.
The Melbourne Rising take on the Greater Sydney Rams at 2 pm on Saturday September 19 at the Latrobe City Stadium, Morwell.
